She really is a fabulous writer, and a fabulous person. Yes, flash is a good thing to delve into, if not as our genre of choice, at least as a sort of boot camp...

Thanks for coming by, Mike!Guilie Castillohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09006999087139126972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7436812892124383603.post-9489457420329529382016-07-03T15:11:56.596-04:002016-07-03T15:11:56.596-04:00Interesting insight, Lee... Perhaps, indeed, our lives have become more hectic, our attention spans shorter, our need for immediate gratification more demanding—and, maybe, our souls less patient... I mean, even the best Victorian novels (Dickens, the Brönte gals, Hardy, etc.) took pages and pages to get to the point. Descriptions were lengthy and convoluted and... well, Victorian :D I like the Hemingway evolution (revolution?) of economy of words, and I'm a big, big fan of flash, especially, like you, the novel-in-flash format, but I do wonder what it says about us as a society, literarily speaking. Thank you so much for this food for thought!Guilie Castillohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09006999087139126972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7436812892124383603.post-85576588816727758802016-07-02T00:15:53.455-04:002016-07-02T00:15:53.455-04:00Thanks for sharing! Rarely was a short story less than ten or twenty pages. I like a longer story, but I've also grown to appreciate the economy and quick pace of flash. A novel collection of flash chapters is the way I like things these days. Since I often can only read in brief time periods I prefer short chapters with less convoluted sentences and paragraphs.

Maybe we've gotten too rushed in our time, but it's the way things have gotten and our reading reflects that.

Arlee Bird
Tossing It Out
Arlee Birdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11663942782929929334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7436812892124383603.post-70970859462742501772016-06-29T14:15:00.843-04:002016-06-29T14:15:00.843-04:00Haha... As for short vs long - I do both short stories and novels and I approach them so differently its hard to say what I've learned in one carries over to the other. Aside from copyedits. That transfers to everything - especially Twitter and work e-mails XDAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12106399041059595196noreply@blogger.com
