You can stop explaining the white working class rural conservative Christian farming folk, hot-takers and self-justifiers. Instead, why don't you explain liberalism to them? Why don't you explain that jobs are drying up and communities are dying not because of abortion and same-sex marriage but because of Republican economic policies that have favored the wealthy, most of whom live in cities, including a certain president-elect they voted for who took advantage of those very policies in order to stay rich? Ultimately, though, it won't matter. Because despite every fucking word to the contrary, the real problem is that those who voted for Trump are racist. They are sexist. They are Islamophobic. They are ignorant.
The whole thrust of these "let's learn about the yokels" articles is to imply that there are real Americans and there are coastal elites. Sorry, motherfuckers. We're all Americans. And if I have to suffer under your stupid, you have to hear about our smarts.
Exactly. (Even if I take exception to the use of 'Americans'... America is a continent, which makes not just US citizens but Mexicans, Ecuadorians, Peruvians, Brazilians, Costa Ricans, Guatemalans, etc., etc., also 'Americans'.)
Oh how I agree and I believe Trump sought out Putin's help to win which is why he is not too happy about the recent events going down.
ReplyDeleteToo right, Birgit... I still haven't made up my mind on whether Trump sought out Putin or Putin played Trump to gain control of the US, but either way it was definitely a match made in totalitarian heaven.
DeleteIt's not over until the "fat lady" sings. I think Putin wanted Trump because he is weak. One item that I feel is true is that Trump is not that smart. Money can hide inadequacies. Also our life experiences can limit what we know. I follow a lot of things on Facebook and one of them is Dan Rather. He has written that we are only hearing the beginning.
ReplyDeleteThere is actually objective truth to Trump not being smart: He doesn't read. One of the most basic standards of intelligence is whether a person reads or not and, across the board, people who don't read are less intelligent than those that do. "We" have elected a bumbling buffoon, and he is the puppet.
DeleteHi Guilie - it's challenging over here too - we need to accept that we are all humans ... everyone of us .. as my "Human Bean Thanksgiving" post offered up ...
ReplyDeleteIt is going to be interesting ... take care, with thoughts and definitely hugs for any who want ... cheers Hilary
I'll try to remember to read that other post later.
ReplyDeleteThis is spot on: "Republican economic policies that have favored the wealthy, most of whom live in cities, including a certain president-elect they voted for who took advantage of those very policies in order to stay rich". As a liberal (Canadian variety, ie. slightly left of centre; there's another party here, called the NDP, which is further left), I am just as horrified and perplexed by the outcome of the U.S. election as you are, Guilie. My quandary, and it's a HUGE one, is that I have several good online friends who are NOT racist, sexist, Islamophobic or ignorant, yet they still voted for Trump, because they "wanted change" and couldn't stomach Hillary. My own father was a card-carrying member of the Tea Party down in San Diego, which, as you can imagine, led to some "interesting" discussions. Like so many others, he despised Hillary too and would have also voted Republican if he were still alive. He wasn't any of those things, either. How can I possibly rail against my friends and family? Cut them out of my life? Not going to happen. Life isn't that black and white. I can only hope they were misled, somehow, or had figurative blinders on and that they will eventually see the error of their ways and turf the bastard. These truly are troubled times...
